No One Was Rolling Eyes Anymore

Last weekend, I was regaling our daughters with the intricacies of cardboard engineering and what it takes to ship four candles from New Hampshire to Oregon in a box that takes seconds to assemble, protects them from breaking, and arrives in 4-5 days (let’s all remember that the Oregon Trail took settlers up to 6 months and this starts way further East).
They. Rolled. Their. Eyes. 🧐😲
Sooo, to make it more interesting, I bet them they could toss a box of four candles out of our third story window without them getting damaged. If I won, they had to give me a piece of their candy stash, which they bought with money from deadheading flowers, and if they won, they each got some ice cream.
No one was rolling eyes anymore. 😎
First, the candles had to be made. These were for a holiday four pack of 6 oz tins that we’ll be releasing in November, and I was excited for them to see a product come to life from start to finish.
One by one, they measured their coconut and soy wax, melted it, blended in a phthalate free fragrance oil of their choice, and attached a wick, which were all different sizes and types, so we could see which one worked best (Science! 👩🔬👨🔬).
The kitchen was filled with notes of cinnamon, orange peel, cranberry, and clove. 😋🥰
Finally, the candles were made, cooled, and ready to be dropped out a third story window.
“Can I do it?” is the mantra they live by, and this time, Makayla won the honors.
Up went the box, spinning, plummeting, and smashing into the driveway. 😬 Hardly any effect! There was one teeny, tiny dent on the bottom of two of the candle tins.
Acknowledging the almost microscopic damage from a test that was akin to them falling off a truck traversing the hoover dam, I asked if they were impressed with the engineering box?
They said they won and started chanting about ice cream—which—they received. *sigh* 😏
Shenanigans aside, the candles we’re designing for our Christmas release are phenomenal. 🔥 If you’d like a chance to be part of a (very) limited early release, sign up for our email newsletter. Right now, the short list is looking like this:
Auld Lang Syne
Top Notes: Cinnamon, Ginger
Middle Notes: Clove, Cypress
Base Notes: Pine, Fir
Christmas Eve (Orange Clove returns! 😍)
Top Notes: Orange, Lemon Peel
Middle Notes: Cinnamon, Cardamom
Base Notes: Clove
Mulled Cider
Top Notes: Orange Peel, Cinnamon
Middle Notes: Cranberry, Cider
Base Notes: Red Wine, Woods
Northern Birch
Top Notes: Eucalyptus, Mint
Middle Notes: Cypress, Pine
Base Notes: Tonka Bean
The tests for these are so promising. Seriously, every room of our house right now is 🙌🥰. If you’d like a shot at a sneak peak, there’s a place to signup for the newsletters at the bottom of joylanefarm.com.
Can’t wait to show these to you all!

PS: Even Tessa is quite fond of sniffing them 😊
