The first time I saw a lavender field was in Hungary on a train ride from Switzerland to Ukraine in college. Two of my childhood friends and I had traveled from Lauterbrunnen—a mountain village surrounded by waterfalls in the Swiss Alps—to Hohensalzburg Castle in Salzburg, Austria, and then made our way through Budapest, and onto Kyiv. The train across Hungary was hot and dry, the way lavender plants like it, and a sea of purple stretched out beside the tracks. It was one of the most memorable sights from that summer.
Years later, my wife and I came home from Ukraine again, this time to take over the family soap business where we combined pure lavender essential oil, obtained from lavender petals through steam distillation, with goat milk and olive oil to make lavender goat milk soap.
We used to order the lavender oil in 1 lb. bottles, and I dreamed of when we would order the 25 lb. drums. We were poor having just graduated grad school and working as a teacher and a waiter while we made and sold soap on the side. The 25 lb drums of lavender oil were well out of our price range. One bar at a time, we sold soap and grew the business, formulating new products and buying bigger quantities of lavender oil.
The business has grown, and we regularly order 25 lb. drums of lavender oil now. Every time we do, I remember where we started. Growing a small business into a company is stressful in ways we never imagined, so lavender, known for its calming and relaxing properties, has always had a special place on our ingredients list. Maybe that’s why we made lavender the signature color of Joy Lane Farm.
Our lavender products are some of our most sought-after, and we hope you enjoying reading about them and trying them!
Lavender Pillow Spray
Lavender pillow spray goes by many names: Lavender Sleep Spray, Lavender Linen Spray, or Lavender Air Spray, but whether you’re using a lavender spray for sleep or just to give your house a fresh, clean lavender scent, you can’t go wrong with 100% natural lavender pillow spray made with lavender essential oil.
Lavender Pillow Spray Inspiration
Lavender is renowned for its calming properties, and it’s so pleasant to give your pillow a quick spritz with lavender pillow spray before you go to bed. The lavender signals to your brain that it’s time to slow down, to rest, to turn off work activities and to-do lists. It gives your mind permission to be still.
While you can certainly use a lavender pillow spray throughout the day, we like reserving it specifically as a lavender sleep spray at bedtime. It gives your body a natural rhythm that works against the fast-paced, high-productivity culture of the modern age. Ironically, rest lets you get more done.
A lavender pillow spray is best kept on a bedside table, ready at hand just before sleep. We also recommend (to our daughters and ourselves) keeping your room clean and your bed made, which helps reduce anxiety, allowing your brain to be at ease as you turn in for the night.
Our lavender pillow spray is a simple formula made with pure, lavender essential oil, water, and alcohol as a solubilizer to keep the water and lavender oil evenly blended (Lavender essential oil comes is a natural oil from real lavender plants and is obtained through steam distillation). For ease of use, the lavender pillow spray comes in a recyclable aluminum bottle with a fine mist sprayer perfect for one or two spritzes on your pillow.

Gentle nudge to sleep
We started using this pillow spray a few years back to help our daughter settle down more once her head hit the pillow. She is now 13 and always remembers to spray it before getting into bed herself. Thank you for making such wonderful products!

My daughter loves it!
When my 4th grader just can't sleep, or it's a busy day with a late bedtime, we love to use this lavender spray. Its scent is calming and authentic, not soapy or sharp. I also borrow it to softly scent the guest rooms before company arrives. This spray is a win-win!

Excellent!
This has helped me get good rest at night, which is usually an issue for me. I spray it on my pillow before bed-it smells so good! And I’m actually not much of a lavender-smell person. Highly recommend!

Lavender Bar Soap
Our lavender bar soap (or lavender goat milk soap) is made with goat milk and olive oil, so it’s wonderful for sensitive skin. The goat milk has vitamin A, lactic acid, and moisture-boosting fat molecules make it a fabulous soap for dry skin, eczema, and psoriasis.
Our lavender bar soap is also one of our exfoliating soaps (also called a colloidal soap)! At the last stage of mixing, we blend in ground oatmeal and lavender buds for a gentle scrub or exfoliation as you use it. It makes a wonderful lavender body soap or lavender hand soap.
A lavender bar soap can be made with lavender fragrance oil, which is synthetically produced in a lab, or with lavender essential oil, which is a natural oil taken from lavender petals using steam distillation. Our lavender bar soaps are 100% natural, scented only with pure lavender essential oil.
Our lavender bar soap also has an exceptional lather thanks to the botanical oils we use and is long lasting. We extend the life of our lavender bar soap by aging it after cutting. Here's a little more about the process! Lavender bar soap is made by blending goat milk, olive oil, coconut oil, sustainably sourced palm oil, and sodium hydroxide or lye. Just before pouring it into molds, lavender essential oil, lavender buds, and ground oatmeal are added. Then, it rests for 48 hours while saponification occurs (the chemical reaction of lye and fat turning into soap). After two days, the lavender bar soap is cut into logs and bars and put on drying racks. Our lavender bar soaps are shipped months later, allowing them to dry and harden, which is what makes them last such a long time.
Pro Tip: If you like an exfoliating soap like our lavender bar soap and are looking for other colloidal or oatmeal soaps, we also offer: Applejack & Peel Goat Milk Soap, Cranberry Bog Goat Milk Soap, Oatmeal, Milk & Honey Goat Milk Soap, and Stress Relief Goat Milk Soap (which is a Lavender Bar Soap with peppermint essential oil added).

Lavender Bar Soap Reviews
awesome soap
I have been buying Joy Lane goats milk soap for almost 8 years. I first purchased it at the Portsmouth New Hampshire farmer's market, and have been doing so ever since. It has made such a difference in the quality of my skin. When I use it, my skin feels clean, and I have wondered if that feeling is because the soap doesn't haven any chemicals. I also noticed the skin on my hands no longer bleed. I am an aging landscaper, and noticed the backs of my hands would bleed from extended exposure to sun. That no longer happens.....ever. No matter what soap I choose, the result is always the same........just perfect.

Beautiful lavender scent
I love this soap. It has a clean, simple lavender scent. So many mass produced lavender scented products have a cloying, chemical lavender scent but this smells so good. The soap lasts a long time and even my 6 year old uses it.
-Rachel
Best soap you’ll ever find!
I’ve never had a bar of soap I’ve liked more. I’ve used a lot of different goat milk based soaps and this one is by far the best. I love the exfoliation!! So nice.

The Best Lavender Lotion
Whether you're looking for a lavender hand lotion or a lavender body lotion, you can't go wrong with our lavender shea butter lotion. It's the best lavender lotion! It's light and airy, absorbs easily, and a little bit goes a long way. Like our Lavender Pillow Spray and Lavender Bar Soap, the scent is 100% natural, pure lavender essential oil. It's the real thing.
For moisturizers, our lavender lotion uses nutrient dense shea butter, avocado oil, and apricot kernel oil. These are perfectly balanced, so the lavender lotion isn't oily, but makes your skin soft and smooth.
Does Lavender Lotion repel mosquitoes?
One of the questions we get is, "Does Lavender Lotion repel mosquitoes?"
We honestly hadn't given it much thought before we received the following review from a customer who had been using our lavender lotion regularly.
"I have come to depend upon this lavender lotion and just discovered an added bonus! This lavender lotion feels so amazing on my highly sensitive skin. It absorbs quickly, adds moisture and smells wonderful. This weekend, while walking in the wood with my dogs, I discovered the mosquitos--that follow me like their leader--did not bite where I had applied it on my arms. To test this, when home I tried it on legs while working in the yard and the bugs stayed away! I have tried everything and do not like to use deet etc. This lavender lotion is amazing!"
-Christine
If you're looking for a backyard mosquito repellant for while you garden that doesn't have the scent of citronella, Lavender Lotion might be just the thing!
Lavender Lotion Reviews
Soft scent
"This lavender lotion has a light soft scent, unlike so many lavender products that are too strong. Lovely and easily absorbed with no greasy feel. Thanks, Joy Lane!"
-Stephanie
Love the Lavender
"Love this lotion! Tried it, then bought another one to keep in the bathroom. I'm a nurse, so I'm using hand sanitizer all the time and my hands get extremely dry. I love coming home at the end of the day and using my lavender lotion....it smells so good, and really relieves the dryness."
-Kimberlee
Lovely Luscious Lavender Lotion!
"I really do love this lotion. It's just right. Not greasy, or too thick. LOVE the smell, that really is calming as I put it on when I'm getting into bed. It helps the dry skin on my feet really nicely."
-Gloria

Lavender Candle
Lavender candles are known for their calming effects. Our soy wax lavender candles are 100% natural. They’re hand-poured with lavender essential oil distilled from the petals of lavender plants, use a paraffin-free soy and coconut wax blend, and burn cleanly through a braided cotton wick. They come in a traditional, glass apothecary jar, which is easily recycled or reused after completion, and have a glass lid to extinguish your candle without the smell of smoke tainting the lavender.
Soy Lavender Candle Burn Time
Our lavender candle formula has been carefully tested to burn all the way to the edge of the jar while maximizing burn time. Each lavender candle has a burn time of 45 hours. We recommend burning your lavender candle until the melted wax pool reaches the edge of the jar during each burn, which insures an even burn across the top.
Soy Lavender Candle Scent Throw
When lit, our lavender candle is designed to fill a large open space, like a living room, kitchen, or open concept apartment. Unlit, our lavender candle will pleasantly scent a small room, like an office or bathroom, when the cover is removed.
What Our Lavender Candle Doesn't Have
Our lavender candles contain no artificial fragrance oil, perfume, or artificial color and the coconut and soy wax blend we use is paraffin free.
